79 Series snorkels relocate the factory air intake from behind the grille to roof height where the air is cooler, cleaner, and unaffected by the ground-level dust cloud. The factory air intake on a 79 sits behind the grille at chest height. Exactly where the dust thrown up by the tyres ends up on any dirt road. Run a stock 79 on unsealed roads regularly and the air filter is choked with bulldust before its scheduled service. A 79 Series snorkel fixes that. The engine gets better air, the filter lasts longer, and on water crossings the snorkel is the difference between a story to tell and an insurance claim to make.

POLYETHYLENE BODY, OEM-SPEC FITMENT

This collection includes Safari ARMAX and V-Spec snorkels built from UV-stabilised polyethylene. The polyethylene body is durable, repairable if struck, shape-stable in extreme heat, and forgiving when stones or branches make contact. Each 79 Series snorkel is engineered for the specific body and engine combination it suits, with proper sealing at the airbox connection and OEM-spec mounting brackets that line up to the factory guard hole locations. Most installations use existing guard holes with minimal trimming, and the templates are clearly marked in the install instructions. Pre-cleaners and air rams are available as add-ons for the dustiest outback environments.

SEPARATE 79 SERIES SNORKELS FOR HZJ, VDJ, AND GDJ ENGINES

The 79's air intake position and required airflow rate changed with each major engine. 1HZ, 1VD-FTV V8, and the new 1GD-FTV 2.8L. 79 Series snorkels are matched to each engine specifically. The 1984 to 2007 era 1HZ uses a different body and intake setup, the 2007 to 2023 VDJ79 V8 has its own design, and the 2024 onwards GDJ79 facelift in both 2.8L diesel and 4.5L V8 options uses new arrangements with revised guard shapes.
